THE MAN

M. Lawrence Lallande (a.k.a. “Lorenzo” to his friends) was born and raised in Puerto Rico where he learned to surf and developed a love for the outdoors. Lawrence’s parents were believers in a strong work ethic and Lawrence began working from an early age resulting in a broad range of work experiences that have enriched his life ranging from cooking in a commercial kitchen to serving as a firefighter for the Bureau of Land Management.

Lawrence met his wife Mary (a.k.a. “Maria de Mis Sueños") in 1984 when they were both newly minted Ski Patrollers. They were married a year later, moved to Long Beach, and raised 4 children. The children were likewise taught a love for the mountains and learned how to ski and snowboard soon after they were able to walk. Long Beach is a marine city and Lawrence and Mary shared surfing, water-skiing, wake-boarding and boating with their children. Watching oldest daughter Shannon charge down steep slopes on her snowboard has brought great pride (and some fear). Youngest son Michael became an accomplished nationally ranked long board surfer whose love for the waves continues.

Lawrence’s love for the mountains called him back to further pursue mountaineering in the 2010s. Lawrence has traveled to 4 continents to climb and summit numerous peaks over 5,000 meters and 6,000 meters. Mountaineering feeds Lawrence’s belief that fitness improves work performance, the ability to handle stressful situations, and humility. Among Lawrence’s favorite memories are summiting Kilimanjaro with his oldest son Christopher on his 32nd birthday and then repeating the adventure several years later with his youngest daughter Karina on her 32nd birthday.

Lawrence and Mary enjoy cooking, wine tasting and sharing time with their 4 children and 7 grandchildren.
